The Untitled Space is pleased to present “HIGH ON LIFE” an online solo exhibition of watercolors and limited-edition wearable art by artist Fahren Feingold. Inspired by nature and the self-healing properties of mother earth, the series premieres on April 27th and will be on view through July 31st, 2021. The series debuts a collection of beautifully crafted limited edition photo printed silk scarves and tees designed by the artist featuring her vibrant paintings as well as an original short film about her inspirations for the collection shot on location in Los Angeles, CA.

“I began to paint the beauty that exists around me. I sought to reconnect with the teachings of shamanic plant healing women, who were and still are, shamed for their magical work with plants and energy healing. Invoking their strength and companionship in my solitude I learnt from them and let their teaching and guidance heal me.”

“I sought to reconnect with my inner child, by doing the things that brought me unadulterated joy, watching cartoons, like Ren & Stimpy, from my youth with different eyes now that I am here. Taking barefoot walks on grassy lawns to catch the sun as it sparkles through the trees. Holding dandelion puffs and blowing the fluffy feathers into the wind while making wishes. Feeling grateful for the space and time this pandemic has allowed and taught me to slow down and soak up.”

“As a woman there is guilt associated with having fun past your early 20s. You’re supposed to grow up and become serious – i.e. start looking for a husband, have a family, and a stable career. Straying from this path, you are isolated from friends, family, and colleagues who question your very reasonableness. While men are rarely questioned – it is a double standard in our society I struggle with.”

“As I started to delve deeper into the self-healing properties that our own mother earth can offer, I researched crystals and minerals. I learned all the magic that these stones can possess just by holding them near and I wanted to not only harness some of that but to share it. I looked into ways of incorporating these crystal properties of love, happiness, protection, balance, healing, and angelic communication into my paintings. I found I could paint with them not only by my side but actually in the paint itself. So now all of the paintings have the magical and healing properties of these gems and crystals imbued in them.”

“I also took this time to reevaluate the medications I had been taking for so many years. I was blindly letting my doctors just prescribe anti-depressants without considering alternatives because it felt ‘easy’. But when that stopped working, I decided to try alternative methods with plants, and it was like my body and mind were waking up for the first time in 20 years.”

“I convinced myself that prescriptions were the only way for me to cope, but there are many ways to heal. I think we must allow space for everyone to find their own path without judgment. Having these experiences to delve deeper into one’s psyche is getting classified as ‘hippie’ and ‘radical’, when really, we are just trying to live happy. The journey is ongoing.”

“The flowers I chose to paint are mostly sweet peas, often called butterfly flowers. I felt compelled to paint these sweet butterfly petals because throughout the pandemic, butterflies were following me around. Wherever I went, they were showing up. I believe that past loved ones often show up as butterflies, to let you know they’re with you and by your side. It felt like I was painting past butterfly spirits as I painted my flowers.”

Feingold gives new voices to women of the past and present while exploring larger notions of female constructs in contemporary society. Her palette of bright pastels and soft colors invites the viewer to step inside her dreamlike world.

“As I walked through the grass and took in the sunshine, I learned that it was the mycelium of fungi connecting all the trees like the internet beneath my feet. These mushrooms were helping all the plant life send nutrients to each other and speak to each other, even helping mother trees raise their children trees. How incredible that this broad spectrum exists all around us and beneath us, healing the natural world. I was so blown away and inspired by these magical little organisms, that’s when I knew they would heal me too.”

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Watercolor artist Fahren Feingold imparts an ethereal quality to her unique works depicting the female form. Her watercolors featuring bold feminine nudes reference imagery from early 20th century French erotica, vintage American magazines from the 70s and 80s, and today’s Internet girls. The Los Angeles native moved to New York at the age of seventeen to study at the Parsons School of Design. After earning her BFA between Parsons and Glasgow School of Art, she worked as a fashion designer for top brands including Ralph Lauren, Nicole Miller and J.Crew, among others. In 2016, her dreamy watercolors caught the eye of the legendary Nick Knight, who commissioned her to illustrate Paris Fashion Week for SHOWStudio.
Feingold’s artwork has been featured in numerous international exhibitions including a number of solo and group exhibitions with The Untitled Space gallery. Notable exhibitions include “Take Home A Nude” at Sotheby’s New York, “Moving Kate,” curated by Nick Knight for SHOWStudio in London and The Mass in Tokyo; “The Vulgar” at The Barbican in London, curated by Judith Clark and Adam Phillips and “Red Hot Wicked” at Studio C Gallery in Los Angeles, and solo show “The Peep Show” presented in collaboration with Fleur Du Mal. Her work has been featured in The Untitled Space group shows “Art4Equality”, “BODY BEAUTIFUL”, “IRL: Investigating Reality”, “ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE”, “UPRISE / ANGRY WOMEN”, “SECRET GARDEN”, and “LIFEFORCE” among many others. Her work has additionally been featured with The Untitled Space at art fairs including SPRING/BREAK Art Show special projects “(HOTEL) XX” and “EDEN”, SCOPE Miami and AQUA Art Show. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA and is preparing for her forthcoming solo show with The Untitled Space to debut this fall 2021.
