Kat Toronto, AKA "Miss Meatface", is a multidisciplinary artist hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area who works in performance-based photography. She uses her often unsettling and surreal images to explore cultural ideals of feminine beauty and the objectification of women in a patriarchal society. Through her self-portraiture that dissects the complexities of sexuality and gender roles, the artist toys with the push and pull of dominance and submission and the acts of revealing and concealing. Diagnosed with a rare form of cervical cancer in 2010 that eventually led to a full hysterectomy in 2013, Kat uses the name “Miss Meatface” as an artistic and spiritual catalyst to delve into a complex set of questions about where she now fits into society as a woman.
Represented by The Untitled Space since 2018, Kat Toronto aka Miss Meatface been featured in several solo shows presented by the gallery including her debut solo show, “MISS MEATFACE,” in 2019, as well as “PEEP SHOW” presented in collaboration with luxury brand Fleur Du Mal in 2020. After attending California College of the Arts for Photography and Textiles from 1999–2002 and receiving her BFA in Fiber Art from Kansas City Art Institute in 2005, Toronto began creating works under the “Miss Meatface” moniker in 2014. She has additionally been featured in a number of the gallery’s group shows, including “EDEN,” “(HOTEL) XX,” “SECRET GARDEN,” “SHE INSPIRES,” “UPRISE,” “ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE,” “The REBEL Exhibition,” and “IRL: Investigating Reality“. Deemed “completely revolutionary and exquisite” by Vogue Italia, Toronto has been featured in numerous international publications including Dazed, Wonderland, LADYGUNN, Musée, Refinery29, Hi-Fructose, Whitehot, and The Untitled Magazine, amongst others.
